Live & Shine Organization is a registered NGO in Kenya whose objectives are economic empowerment to marginalized and vulnerable population, Entrepreneurial Training, Business Incubation and Mentorship, Development Research and Establishment of Community Resource Centers, Facilitating Housing and Educational Fund for the less fortunate, Advocacy, capacity building and civic education, Developing and providing health and maternal care for less privileged.
Overtime we have successfully implemented various community based projects and programmes geared towards elevating the dignity of the vulnerable and less privileged. We have supported these programmes from proceeds of our real estate business and support charitable support from our church..
In view of climate change effects, our programmes have been skewed to build community resilience and enhance their mitigation capacity. The outcomes of these programmes have had a huge impact to the beneficiaries. Our targets groups are women, Youth, PLWDs, Widows and orphans among others
Over 30% of Kenya’s GDP is contributed by SMEs and it accounts for large employment opportunities across the country. However, these SMEs faces differs bottlenecks and challenges to scale their operations. It is for this reason that we have tailored a capacity building programme to scale the SMEs operations and guarantee continuity, sustainability and productivity in their operations. Among the common challenges identified are:-
- Difficulties Balancing Growth and Quality, Ineffective market presence, Bottlenecks to innovation and adoption of technology, Lack of sufficient capital, Lack of human capital management, Lack of sound financial management systems and low uptake of corporate social responsibility
We have tailored our intervention to address these challenges through what we refer as scaling up the entrepreneurship competencies. This programme refers to the SMEs competitiveness model covering six areas of competence, namely: opportunity competencies, organizing competencies, relationship competencies, strategic competencies, conceptual competencies, proactive corporate social responsibility and commitment competencies.
This programme targets 100,000 SMEs in eight Counties. Targeting 12,500 SMEs per County. These targeted SMEs would be biased towards youth, women and PLWDs led enterprises. The programme shall run for three (3) years. The targeted Counties are Nairobi City County, Kajiado County, Kiambu County, Machakos County, Makueni County, Murang’a County, Kirinyaga County and Kitui County. Our programme would involve capacity building on core operational areas, establishment of management systems, coaching through assigning on-job entrepreneurial mentors for three months to the selected SMEs. The selected SMEs will be through a set matrix of parameters of corporate governance, financial management protocols and proactive corporate social responsibility in support to the community resilience to effects of climate change within their localities.
